Chelsea Flower Show competition - April 2010

Congratulations to the winners of our competitions to win tickets to Chelsea Flower Show. Our website competition 'Why would you particularly like to go to Chelsea this year?' was won by Anne-Marie Martin with the following entry:

I would like to go to Chelsea this year because I have been helping with a group of students at Thornleigh College in Bolton. We entered a competition run by Morrisons called 'Lets Grow to Chelsea'. We have been selected as one of the final 100 after growing some hanging baskets and sending in photos. Now our school task is to grow cucumbers and submit final photos by May 3rd. If we are selected in the final 30 schools our cucumbers will be part of the Morrisons School garden display. I would love to be able to see the schools garden and maybe take one of the students along as well.
Thank you for organising the competition.

Anne-Marie tells us that sadly Thornleigh College did not get past the final 30 this year as the poor weather gave difficulties bringing on the cucumbers in time but that they are now very good indeed! We look forward to seeing Anne-Marie at the show.

Our Bentalls prize draw was won by Edward Jenkinson of Twickenham and we look forward to meeting both our winners at the show.

Congratulations to A Allenach of Auchenblae who won our spring competition:

What is your favourite time of the gardening year - and why?'   with the entry:  'Spring - when I can get out into the garden after a long cold Scottish winter. Give the greenhouse a good tidy out, bringing out the seed trays once more and sitting on my little work stool having a big mug of tea - what bliss'.

January 2010

Congratulations to Kate Smith from St Neots for this winning New Year's Resolution!
Our Garden Token is on its way to her.

The plum tree, held up by rubber, has nowhere to ramble,
The weeds need suppressing, and as for the old bramble…
The faded bench is rickety and needs a few new bolts,
The fences are half painted – just one of my garden’s faults.
I love to plant some vegetables and pick delicious fruit,
A tasty, crunchy russet tree will be my next recruit.
The fence and trellis sway quite a bit when the north wind doth blow,
It will only be a matter of time before they rot and go.
By the time I’ve done this work, I’ll need a little rest,
So a new table and chair set will be for the best.

November and December 2009

Congratulations to Jackie T from from Dorset who won our November/December Competition   'A Country Greenhouses greenhouse is far from the cheapest you can buy and yet they are very popular – what are, in your view, the main reasons for this?' with the entry:

'I think they are just beautiful to look at, a truly attractive design. It is not a building you want to hide away at the back of garden but a real feature, add that to the practical side and you have a real winner'.

August 2009

Congratulations to C Brandon from Coventry who won our August Competition 'What is about a Country Greenhouses greenhouse that make it so attractive to look at?' with the entry:

'A Country Greenhouse adds an understated classical elegance to a home with beautiful proportions and workmanship. A garden building to be proud of '.

July 2009

Congratulations to Janey T from Gloucestershire who won our July Competition which was:

If you could invent a new feature for a greenhouse, what would it be and why would it be such a good idea?

We had fewer entries for this more challenging question, but some very good ideas. Janey's idea tackled the problem of flying insects in the greenhouse.

June 2009

Congratulations to Carol N from London who won 2 tickets to RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in our June Competition with this entry:

"These have got to be the prettiest greenhouses I have ever seen. Move over plants I am moving in. Gardening and gardeners can have a reputation for being dirty and untidy, how these prove that idea wrong. If you owned one of these how on earth could you not feel proud to show your visitors?"

May 2009

Congratulations to Sheila T from Hampshire who won the £25 Garden Token in our May Competition. The answers were of course:

Our greenhouses are made of highest-grade polyester powder coated aluminium. The biggest advantage of owning a greenhouse made of this material is the low maintenance.

We are delighted to announce that Diane F from Stockton-on-Tees wins our Chelsea tickets competition with this winning entry:

"Living in an old 1839 typical railway property (a grade II listed building) which we have tried to restore both the house and garden over the last 8 years in keeping with its simple Victorian character. As a final gesture we would love to add a greenhouse that would complete and complement our efforts and also offer us new challenges and pleasure as we step into retirement. Having seen the Country Greenhouse exhibit at last year's Chelsea Flower Show, and compared with others since, we believe such a greenhouse would be the perfect fit."

We agree, Diane!
